The 6th annual Metropolitinate Day celebration is taking place in on the banks of the Yarra River right in the heart of Melbourne this year, continuing on the tradition which began in Adelaide. Melbourne is home to about 40,000 people of Serbian Origin. Representatives from all Australian states and New Zealand will attend the function.

The exhibition is curated by Bojan Pajic and Richard Cooke who have collaborated in researching the experience of their relatives in the Great War. Richard's grandmother, Ethel Gillingham, from Geelong, Victoria, served with the British Red Cross in Serbia in 1915-16, whilst Bojan's grandfather, Lazar Stefanovic, and great uncle, Dragomir Profirovic, served in the Serbian Army throughout the war.

Thanksgiving Service for Graduates

On Thursday 14 May 2015, the Thanksgiving Service for graduates of St Andrew's Orthodox Theological College was celebrated at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady Theotokos (Redfern NSW). The evening's proceedings began with a Doxological Service chanted by students, past and present. His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos, as Dean, recited a benediction over the graduates and conferred them with the College's Ecclesiastical Certificate.

Under the auspices of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, the Second Sports Gathering of Holy Serbia took place at Ada Ciganlija today. Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, together with Mrs Betty Roumeliotis, Crown Princess Katherine's sister, attended this morning a Holy Liturgy officiated by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Australia and New Zealand with the clergy of Belgrade and Karlovac Diocese.

In May 2014 the Balkans were hit with floods that became the worst regional natural disaster in decades, leaving 51 dead and over 90,000 displaced. Serbia was struck particularly hard with 32,000 people evacuated from their homes and serious damage to the country's infrastructure.

The Supreme Court of New South Wales handed down its judgment today in legal proceedings commenced, with the knowledge and consent of the Holy Assembly of Bishops and the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, by His Grace Bishop Irinej and the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand against the Free Serbian Orthodox Diocese for Australia and New Zealand Property Trust Limited and its directors for breaches of a charitable trust relating to the St Sava Monastery New Kalenich located in Wallaroo, New South Wales.

Ascension Day – the Patron Saint-day (slava) of the capital was celebrated yesterday with the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the church of the Holy Ascension of the Lord in Belgrade. His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch officiated the Holy Liturgy and the traditional slava procession through central streets of Belgrade.
