On Saturday, November 30th, His Eminence Metropolitan Siluan led a youth day trip at the St. Sava Monastery in Wallaroo, NSW.
Upon arrival, the youth participated in an Akathist service dedicated to the “Three-Handed Icon” of the Mother of God (Bogorodica Trojeručica), followed by the veneration of the replica of this Icon at the monastery.
Afterward, the youth gathered in the monastery’s Trapeza, where His Eminence gave a talk on the Sacrament of Holy Confession as the means by which we restore ourselves to the Body of Christ when we fall into sin. His Eminence described confession as a second baptism, a therapy for the mind, body, and soul. He also provided practical advice on how to approach this Holy Sacrament, including: coming with humility, starting with the most serious sins, and being fully honest and open during the confession. He encouraged the youth to reach out to their parish priests or spiritual fathers to schedule time for this Sacrament. Following his talk, the youth had the opportunity to ask His Eminence questions about confession and other aspects of the faith, allowing for a lively and insightful dialogue.
At the close of the day, we gathered in the monastery’s small hall, where lunch was lovingly prepared by our sisters in Christ. The youth enjoyed fellowship, growing closer to one another in Christ, as the Lord promises, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to His Eminence Metropolitan Siluan for his pastoral care and unwavering support for the youth. We also express our gratitude to Fr Branko Vasilic for his assistance throughout the day, Monk Simeon and Sister Gavrilia for their warm welcome at the monastery, the Circle of Serbian Sisters for their continued support, and everyone who helped make this event possible.
A special thank you to the youth, who, despite heavy rainfall, gathered in record numbers for this spiritually enriching day trip. Through the prayers of St. Sava and the Most Holy Theotokos, may our youth continue to be drawn to spiritually beneficial events like this. Glory to God for all things.
