On Sunday, June 22, shortly after his return from the Serbia, His Eminence Metropolitan Siluan attended the ceremonial Vidovdan Recital of Serbian schools from Sydney and the surrounding area. This year’s thirteenth consecutive event of its kind included schools from Wollongong, Serbian language departments at the Greek colleges of St. Spyridon in Maroubra and St. Euphemia in Bankstown, other Serbian language school sections in Bonnyrigg, Wollongong, Liverpool, and Chatswood, as well as a thematic performance by our St. Sava College in Varroville. The primary organisation was carried out on behalf of the Metropolitanate by the Church Municipality of St. Prince Lazar in Alexandria, spearheaded by the Metropolitanate NSW coordinators of Serbian language schools Mrs Mirjana Djukic and Mrs Milica Kozlina.
This highly significant event for our community was held in the Sir John Clancy Auditorium at the University of New South Wales, during the Sunday afternoon hours of June 22, 2025. Guests included representatives from the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia, presidiums of some participating schools, the New South Wales Department of Community Language Schools, and the department for Community Languages and International Programs.
The students, without exception, demonstrated their dedication and love for the Vidovdan heritage, both in the religious segments of the program and in the overall patriotic and literary components of the performances. Through appropriate musical, vocal, dramatic, and partially folkloric pieces, the extensive program—due to the large number of participating schools—was made to be very engaging and diverse.
Following the official addresses by dignitaries, in which the necessity of developing language and culture was emphasised, Metropolitan Siluan delivered the closing Vidovdan message. Highlighting the uniqueness of the Saint Sava legacy, the Kosovo Covenant, and Vidovdan—heritage held by the Serbian people—Metropolitan Siluan briefly spoke about the importance and inalienability of this covenant and calling, which is essentially Gospel-rooted and Christ-like, addressed to the Serbian people, and to all who cherish Truth and goodness, as revealed and offered through Vidovdan.
The Metropolitan also praised the effort, work, and in fact the love invested by the children, their parents, teachers, and clergy in the realisation of this event and similar events, which play a vital role in preserving our Saint Sava heritage through faith, language, and culture on the Fifth Continent.
