THE 39TH PARACIN EVENING

On the feast day of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, in the evening hours, His Eminence Metropolitan Siluan visited St Petka Serbian Orthodox Church in the Melbourne suburb of Rockbank. The reason for this visit was the 39th annual humanitarian evening, known among the Serbs of Melbourne as “Paraćinsko vece”. This humanitarian evening is held for the purpose of raising funds for the Sveta Petka Monastery – Izvor near Paraćin, whose nuns take care of children with disabilities. Welcoming those present, His Eminence emphasised the great importance of such actions, which are essentially the embodiment of the Gospel imperative to serve our neighbours, those who are in need, and through them, Christ himself. This is also a way of directly supporting the Abbess and her sisters, who have dedicated a large part of their monastic life in serving these children. The Metropolitan concluded his address with the Scriptural words, “Let us not get tired of doing good deeds!”
