On Saturday, July 5th, His Eminence Metropolitan Siluan served Divine Hierarchical Liturgy at St. Naum of Ohrid Serbian Orthodox Church in Newcastle.
Alongside parish priest Protovicar Dalibor Pavlovic the following clergy concelebrated with His Eminence on this festive day: The Very Rev. Nicholas Skordilis and Rev. Mark Donnelly from the Greek Orthodox Parish of the Holy Apostles, Protopresbyter Milic Rakic – former parish priest of St. Naum and current Rector of St. Petka in Rockbank, as well as Protodeacon Petar Mrakic, with the assistance of many subdeacons and readers, and the prayerful presence of numerous faithful from Newcastle, the Central Coast, and Sydney.
After the Gospel reading, Metropolitan Siluan delivered an archpastoral homily. Following a threefold procession (litija), the slava bread (slavski kolač) was blessed and cut, offered by this year’s hosts — Subdeacon Aleksandar and Slavica Savić, and brother Tadeos and his wife Veronika.
At the end of the Liturgy, Vladyka Siluan congratulated Fr. Dalibor, the parishioners, and the hosts on their patronal feast, extending a warm welcome to the visiting clergy from the sister Greek and Macedonian Orthodox Churches.
After the Divine Liturgy, the celebration continued with an agape meal prepared by the diligent sisters of the Kolo Srpskih Sestara (Circle of Serbian Sisters) of the parish, together with this year’s hosts.
Following the lunch, the Metropolitan, along with the parish priest, spent time in spiritual conversation with the youth — many of whom are converts to the Orthodox faith.
