To all who have donated, who have volunteered their time and talent, and to all who continue to support St Sava College, we greet you with the most joyous of all greetings!

HRISTOS VASKRSE!

CHRIST IS RISEN!

May the radiance of Christ’s Resurrection illumine the entire creation, and may His conquering of death deliver strength to the faithful, and hope to those who seek Him still. In God all things are possible and despite the hardships we have collectively endured in the past weeks, let us always remember, that help is only a prayer away.

Despite the Coronavirus chaos, work is progressing steadily at St Sava College. Huge changes in the physical landscape are progressing with the delivery and compaction of hundreds of tons of soil, to create playing fields, internal roads and parking areas. Meanwhile, extensive parquetry flooring in the chapel and associated areas is progressing well. Rendering of planter boxes is underway and internal and external painting is due to begin in early May. Any painters in the community who could volunteer a day or two of their time and talent will be warmly welcomed. Volunteer tradesmen help to reduce costs considerably!

Opening St Sava College in 2021 rests on the success of our Application for Registration, a matter we are quietly confident should be processed by August. Only then can we call for enrolments. In the meantime, there is still a lot of work to to complete the internal and associated building works.

  • Floor coverings - Carpet and vinyl: $80,000
  • Timber to chapel floor: $50,000
  • Painting Inside and Outside: $50,000
  • Outdoor concreting between planter boxes: $40,000
  • Tiling External: $55,000
  • Electrical and air-conditioning extras: $30,000

A total of $305,000, is required. A relatively small amount compared to the millions of dollars the Church and our Serbian community have invested in the project so far.

Sadly, we have had to cancel a number of fundraising events due to circumstances brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic. The Easter Fundraising Dinner on Friday the 24th of April, our 10th of May College Slava picnic, and our September debut major annual event - The Scenic Hills Spring Fair, have all been cancelled. This will not only impact on those who looked forward to these events because of the community spirit and Serbian fellowship experienced at our events, but it will also have a significant impact on our fundraising - undermining our ability to complete the above works in a timely fashion. We cannot open an unfinished school.

OUR CHURCH AND OUR COMMUNITY HAVE NEVER RELIED ON GRASSROOTS

SUPPORTERS LIKE YOU, MORE THAN WE DO RIGHT NOW.

However, we know the situation at hand is presenting some individuals and families with many challenges. Fears of job loss and uncertainty are real, not imagined. This is why we encourage you to contribute only if you are financially able to do so. Whatever you and others you may know can contribute, will boost our capacity to get the job finished on time.

Let’s complete the outstanding jobs on the in and around the building, let’s get those playing fields levelled, let’s plant some grass, and let’s all look forward to the coming summer, when we can gather on the playing fields, munch on cevapi and kiss social-distancing goodbye - Serbian style.
