Information about the Interview Survey for first and second generation refugees who currently own businesses

This survey is part of a research project being undertaken at the University of Adelaide called 'Examining the economic, social and civic contributions of first and second generation humanitarian entrants to Australia' . This research examines the ways in which refugees and humanitarian migrants have contributed to Australia's economy and society over the past twenty years.

A key aspect of this research is looking at humanitarian migrants AND their children who have established businesses in Australia. We are interested in learning about why migrants have decided to start businesses, the types of businesses they have established, whether these businesses draw on links with other countries and the opportunities and barriers they face in running their business.

This survey contains questions about the nature of entrepreneurial contributions made by refugees and other humanitarian migrants to Australia's economic and social development.

WHO should complete this survey?

This survey should be completed by individuals who:

- Currently own a business of any kind (irrespective of size, location or whether the business is family or individually run)

- Arrived in Australia as a refugee or on similar humanitarian grounds between 1975 and 2007 OR

- Is the child of someone who has entered Australia on a refugee/humanitarian visa who has arrived between 1975 and 2007

WHERE will the information provided go?

All respondents will remain anonymous and information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality. The names of respondents and their businesses will not be identified in the report or other publications that arise from this research. Results will be reported in a consolidated way.
